The Power of Youth ın Actıon

In a world where 52% of the global population is under 30 years of age, the World Economic Forum sees the integration of youth as an essential component to shape agendas on a local, national and global level. As a result, the Forum launched the Global Shapers Community in 2011 as a platform to engage young people and drive positive change around the world.

Born out of the World Economic Forum, the Global Shapers Community is a network of inspiring young people under the age of 30 working together to address local, regional and global challenges. With more than 8,000 members, the Global Shapers Community spans 403 city-based hubs in 154 countries.

In 2011, Professor Klaus Schwab, Founder and Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum, founded the Global Shapers Community to empower young people to play an active role in shaping local, regional and global agendas. The Global Shapers Community is a non-profit organization registered in Geneva, Switzerland and housed at the World Economic Forum.

The Forum’s contribution to the Shapers organization includes significant financial and in-kind contributions for operational support including staff time, technology tools and opportunities to interact and collaborate with its membership network.

In each city, teams of Shapers self-organize to create projects that address the needs of their community. Projects are wide-ranging – from responding to disasters and combating poverty, to fighting climate change and building inclusive communities. Shapers are diverse in expertise, education, income and race, but are united by their desire to bring about change.

Shapers look for opportunities to have impact on a global scale by joining forces with other hubs. They represent a network of peers connected through technology, events and joint projects.

Istanbul Hub

As one of the first hubs that was established in 2011 in the Community, Global Shapers Istanbul Hub now celebrates 8 years of Shaping journey. Since 2011, Istanbul Hub demonstrated a proven track record of success, achieved to become a strong hub with highest diversity from sportsmen, entrepreneurs, lawyers, journalists, to academicians and a trusted partner in local-national society with multi-stakeholder approach as well as sustaining close dialogues with the WEF Communities, turning this strength into impactful initiatives in several areas such as Climate Crisis, Gender Equity, the Fourth Industrial Revolution, Refugee Crisis, Sustainability.

Taking an important initiative in October 2018, Istanbul Shapers hosted a sub-regional retreat as its first edition in Balkans, Eurasia, Mediterannean to strengthen sub-regional collaborations and fulfill the missing parts in terms of collective action by working closer with the GSC Advisory Council representatives.

Istanbul Hub stepped into the impact ecosystem advancing from local to national, then from national to regional level. The Hub launched its first national initiative Youth4Climate as the first youth movement in climate action of the country.. The Hub led a cross-hub initiative We Play Equal with 10 Hubs from different regions by building a network of 60 coaches with a huge impact group of 10,000 adolescents. There was much more than engaging stakeholders or partnerships.. They approached to building alliances.. Istanbul Hub gained representation through some of its members in the global initiatives and committees of the Community- including Shaping Fashion, Equity&Inclusion Steering Committee, Climate&Environment Steering Committee – furthermore has been represented in the global gatherings such as The Climate Reality Leadership Training Corps..

Last but not least, Istanbul Hub has been selected to host the SHAPE Europe&Eurasia 2019 in 27-29 September 2019 in Istanbul.
